When cutting, is it better to increase cardio or drop calories more?

I’m currently cutting and trying to get leaner, but not sure what’s the better approach long term. Do you guys prefer adding more cardio or lowering calories further? Trying to keep muscle while dropping fat so don’t want to overdo either. What’s worked best for you?

Bit of both works best long term. I’d keep calories controlled first and then use cardio to create a bit more deficit without dropping food too low. That way you keep strength and muscle while still leaning out 👍

I prefer keeping food a bit higher and using cardio to create the deficit, way easier to stick to and performance stays better

My personal experience is to cut the calories and increase weight training.

Best approach = both, but controlled

Start with:

  • Small calorie deficit (300–500 kcal)
  • Keep protein high
  • Lift heavy

Add cardio:

  • 3–4x/week, 20–30 mins

If fat loss stalls:

  1. Add a bit more cardio
  2. Then slightly lower calories

Goal: lose fat slowly while keeping muscle and don’t go extreme on either
