Trained for like 10 years before, then stopped almost 5 years and lost everything. Starting gym again now, mainly want to cut fat and rebuild slowly. Thinking about running a very light cycle just to help recovery. What routine works best at start like a full body or split? And how long before going heavier?

A full-body routine 3x weekly is best for re-priming your nervous system and maximizing muscle protein synthesis while cutting. Wait at least 4–6 weeks to ensure your tendons have adapted before transitioning to heavy, low-rep training.

Split is better and wait for 4-6 weeks before jumping on heavy exercise.

If you’re coming back after a long break, full-body training 3x per week is usually the best way to start. It helps rebuild strength, coordination, and muscle memory without overloading your joints and tendons.
Another safe option is to start with split training which is safe for experienced people who don't want to risk injury.
